The Port of Friday Harbor Building is located at the shores of Friday Harbor, Washington. The design program for this community owned building includes retail spaces on the ground floor for use by marine related business, a generous office space for the US Customs Service and a rooftop conference center that is made available to the general public for meetings and other events. The rooftop plaza adjacent to the conference center is available for use by the public for informal outdoor gatherings.
The sustainable features of this building include on-site catchment of storm water discharge and use of sustainably certified materials for both interior and exterior applications.
The Port of Friday Harbor Building was designed with input from the public, Port management, and Port board members. All three categories of stakeholders brought opinions, suggestions and historical perspective to the design process. The building was designed employing the Historical Guidelines which are encouraged to be included in projects in Friday Harbor.
