The Friday Harbor Center is a mixed use project comprised of two buildings which cover an underground parking garage. The buildings were constructed after a fire in 2002 that destroyed most of the downtown block of this small island town. The design centered process aimed at assuring the many citizens of Friday Harbor that a building responding to the values of the community would replace that which was destroyed. A number of design meetings both formal and informal garnered specific local opinion and support of the final scheme. Stakeholder building was passed on through the project team to the local government and aided in a somewhat expedient permitting process. The buildings include offices, retail establishments, restaurants and lodging.
